The above image is an experiment I did in 2011 to extract 3d photogrammetry data from long tracking shots in movies, in this case I’ve taken frames from the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy crash lands in Munchkinland. At the time I used 123D Catch to generate the mesh. As the algorithms and tools evolve I think there’s fascinating potential here to get better and better data from old footage to allow you to explore these cinematic worlds in an immersive and surreal manner.
